Yuya Saito was born in 1982 in Miyagi, and currently lives and works in Yokohama, Japan.
In his childhood, his parents ran a shop for the fish boat, and there were various materials and tools; big packing tape, big scissors, cardboard, string, cushioning, markers, vinyl tape etc to pack the goods. He used them freely and spent his time making and painting in the shop in place of a large work room.
After receiving BA in General Study and advertising minor at University of Central Oklahoma, he created an art group "PikaPikaCoCo," where he participated in activities utilizing various media such as music, installation, performance, and internet radio show.
Thorough various activities, he looked back and focused on the memory that he was making with free thinking as ignoring the usage of tools, such like opened a hole in cardboard with a ballpoint pen, rounded a string to make a ball, and connected with clips to make a string.
He realized that this is an act of finding and creating quite different characteristics in the tools regardless of the default characteristics of the tools.
He is further pointing this perspective to complicated subjects that can not be easily classified such as people or culture and is attempting to shed the light on the possibility of deviating from the uniform classification.
For example, it is like a challenge how we can access the hidden wonderful singing ability in someone who is very bad at talking, in addition, he is trying to express that the meaning and category given to themselves can be changed by giving meaning by themselves.
